In digital currency transactions, due to the irreversible nature of the blockchain, misdirected funds often occur.

Address errors are one of the most common causes. Cryptocurrency recipient addresses are typically long strings of letters and numbers. For example, a Bitcoin address might begin with "1," "3," or "bc1," while an Ethereum address begins with "0x." If a user accidentally mistypes a single character when entering an address—even if it's just one extra or missing letter or number, or if they confuse similar characters (for example, confusing the number "0" with the letter "O" or the number "1" with the letter "I")—funds can be transferred to the wrong address. Due to the irreversible nature of cryptocurrency transactions, once funds are transferred to the wrong address, unless the corresponding private key holder actively returns the funds, they are virtually impossible to recover.

Errors caused by currency-to-address mismatches are also common. Different cryptocurrencies typically have their own unique address formats. While some cryptocurrencies may be based on the same blockchain network (e.g., ERC-20 tokens are all based on the Ethereum network and use a similar address format), transferring one cryptocurrency to an address in an incompatible cryptocurrency can cause problems. For example, transferring Bitcoin to an Ethereum address will be lost because the two blockchain architectures and address systems are completely different. Some users also confuse different address types for the same cryptocurrency, such as Bitcoin's Legacy and SegWit addresses. While some wallets support transfers between different address types, in some cases, the incorrect address type can lead to transfer failures or loss of funds.

The mis-transfer of coins due to incorrect network selection is particularly common in cryptocurrencies based on multiple networks. Many cryptocurrencies now circulate on multiple blockchain networks. For example, USDT can exist on multiple networks, such as Ethereum, TRON, and Binance Smart Chain. If the network selected by the user during a transfer does not match the network corresponding to the address provided by the recipient, funds will be mis-transferred. For example, if the recipient provides a USDT address on the TRON network, but the sender chooses to transfer funds on the Ethereum network, the USDT will be transferred to an address on the Ethereum network that matches the address string. However, since the two networks are independent, the funds cannot be used on the TRON network, resulting in a loss.

The stablecoin payment gateway BlockATM offers a unique advantage in preventing mis-transfers. It utilizes advanced intelligent address matching technology. When a user enters a receiving address, the system quickly compares it with a built-in address database, verifying not only the accuracy of the address but also the type of digital currency corresponding to the user's input. If the address is not on the whitelist, the payment will not be processed. This not only prevents mis-transfers but also effectively prevents hackers from stealing the funds.
