1. China expands restrictions on BHP Group iron ore
- China widened a ban on BHP iron ore for the second time in two weeks.
- The move escalates a months-long dispute over the 2026 supply contract.
2. Ban on Newman fines deliveries
- China’s state-run buyer, China Mineral Resources Group (CMRG), informed mills and traders that Newman fines stored at ports will soon be banned from delivery.
3. Short transition period
- Buyers will still be allowed to take delivery within five working days before the restrictions take effect.
4. Gradual tightening over six months
China has progressively limited several BHP products:
- September: Ban on Jimblebar fines
- November: Ban on Jinbao products
- Recently: Reduced purchases of Newman fines, Newman lumps, and Mac fines
Currently, only some port-stored Newman lumps and Mac fines remain permitted.
